Selank is a synthetic analog of tuftsin, a naturally occurring peptide present in the human body. Tuftsin is an immunostimulatory tetrapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) located within the fd fragment of the gamma globulin molecule. It modulates IL-6 receptors, helper T cells, monoamine neurotransmitters and brain-derived neurotropic factors. By regulating these molecules, it contributes to the body’s defense system against pathogens and other immune-related processes.
Selank was first developed by the Russian Institute of Molecular Genetics in order to explore its effect on psychiatric and neurologic diseases. Selank differs from its parent molecule by the additional group of three amino acids (Pro-Gly-Pro) that contributes to its stability. It has been used to treat generalized anxiety disorder in Russia, but the FDA has not approved it yet for clinical use. However, researchers can still buy selank for approved research. On our website, selank for sale is exclusively available for research and educational purposes.

Selank has been shown to have a positive effect on cognitive function. One study assessed the effect of selank on the learning and memory process. Wistar rats were trained with food rewards with 30 trials per day. Researchers injected selank/saline into the subject after the 10th trial and evaluated behavioral retention after 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days. The findings indicated that the drug can enhance the memory storage process for up to 30 days through its influence on serotonin levels in the brain [1].
ISimilarly, another study was conducted to compare the effect of selank in rats with low learning ability. Rats were given the drug 15 minutes prior to the training session for four days. The result found that selank improved the learning process which was apparent even after the Ist dose. Furthermore, the number of correct solutions increased and the frequency of errors reduced with repeated administration, and the maximum effect was observed at 3rd day [2].
Selank exhibits a neuroprotective effect as it promotes neuronal survival and regeneration. Research shows that it might have a role in supporting neurogenesis and maintaining existing neurons. In a study, rats with alcohol-induced memory deficits were administered 0.3 mg/kg selank per day for a week. The results found that the peptide didn’t only prevent memory and attention disturbance developing during alcohol withdrawal but also impeded ethanol-induced increase in brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the hippocampus and frontal cortex [3].
Moreover, selank has been known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Excessive oxidative stress and inflammation can cause damage to neurons. By inhibiting inflammation and reducing the level of reactive oxygen species in the brain, it promotes neuronal health [4].
Research shows that selank might benefit people with anxiety. In a study, researchers compared the effect of selank and medazepam and found both drugs to have similar efficacy in treating anxiety. However, only selank was associated with antiasthenic effects, meaning encountering pain and fatigue. Further, researchers observed that decreased levels of tau (1/2) leu-enkephalin were linked to disease severity and duration. Selank treatment resulted in increased levels of tau (1/2) leu-enkephalin specifically in patients with generalized anxiety disorder [5].
One study found that selank suppressed the genes responsible for IL-6 production in patients with depression, but not in healthy controls. Additionally, selank inversely altered Th1/Th2 cytokine balance, indicating its potential as an immunomodulator for anxiety-related conditions and adaptogenic use against stress-induced infections [6].
Scientific evidence shows that selank inhibits the enzyme responsible for the breakdown of enkephalins. Enkephalins are endogenous peptides that bind to opioid receptors and reduce the severity of pain. Further, these molecules are involved in stress response and selank might help the effects enkephalins have on memory, concentration and stress response [7].
In addition to regulating enkephalin levels, selank modulates the activity of neurotransmitters involved in the body’s stress response. In one study, the effect of selank on 87 rats pre-treated with serotonin inhibitors was studied. Researchers found that selank enhanced serotonin metabolism in the brain stem shortly after injection. This data suggests that selank can be used to treat serotonin disturbance-related stress disorders [8].
Selank is a synthetic analog of tuftsin, an endogenous peptide located in the fd fragment of gamma globulin molecule. It is used to treat generalized anxiety disorder in Russia but is not approved by FDA yet. Research shows that it might enhance cognitive function, promote neuroprotection and reduce the severity of pain.
